Over the past week, social media has been going crazy after fans debated the topic of whether Chief Keef or King Von put O’Block on the map.
Sosa media recently found itself in huge debate over who actually put O’Block on the map.
The topic would even get the attention of Lil Reese and King Von’s sister Kayla B. Kayla B would write on Twitter that it was Von who put O’Block on the map.
Lil Reese shared his opinion on the topic on Twitter, saying, “Stop comparing the guys we all did ain’t no 1 man.”
For those who don’t know, O’Block is the name residents gave to Parkway Gardens - a low-income apartment complex located on 64th and King Drive in South Side Chicago - after the murder of 20-year-old Odee Perry on August 11, 2011.
Another little known fact is Parkway Gardens was once home to former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Mrs. Obama opened on up on her past upbringing during an interview with Time Magazine.
Her grandparents, she said, “lived in this housing development called Parkway Gardens.”
“I was actually born there,” she continued. “But I saw it as a wonderful, small apartment building. That’s how I remember it. But now when I pass it, - I was like, God, I never saw that apartment in the way that I’m seeing it now.” The First Lady later moved with her parents to Euclid Avenue around the age of 2.
But it wasn’t the wife of Barack Obama who gave the once unknown low-income apartment complex located in South Side Chicago its Glo.
Fans came to know what O’Block was after the rise of 16-year-old rap phenom Chief Keef in 2011 with the release of his DJ Hustlenomics-hosted “Bang” mixtape. DJ Ken handled production on a majority of this project.
Sosa reached new heights of Glo after his DGainz-directed music video for “I Don’t Like” went viral nearly a year later.
Sosa would go on to use his immense Glo to brand “3Hunna” and “O’Block” in songs and interviews.
Chief So famously told The Breakfast Club he was 3Hunna when he was asked his age during an on-air interview in June 2012.
Keef mentioned O’Block and 3Hunna many times in his debut album “Finally Rich.”
Sosa was such a polarizing figure in the Chi that then-Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel would ban him from the city with the threat of jail time if he ever returned due to outstanding warrants.
Now fast forward to late December 2018, O’Block native King Von would make a name of his own after the release of viral song “Crazy Story,” and a co-sign by Lil Durk.
After getting a buzz with his viral street record “Crazy Story,” Von would go on to replicate Sosa’s proven blueprint in branding O’Block.
Like Sosa, King Von’s road to fame would be embroiled in controversy.
Unfortunately, a little less than 2 years later, Von would be killed outside an Atlanta nightclub.
O’Block is currently in national spotlight due to a federal RICO investigation after feds accused Von of hiring fellow friends from O’Block to murder gang rival FBG Duck on Aug. 4, 2020.
The Rico case is now ongoing with Duck’s mom currently fighting for justice for her son.
